Oh heck - everyone knows about Mary Ann's role in bringing a boy into young manhood.

PS: moms buy what their screaming tweens bug them for - overindulgent for sure - or maybe too lazy to resist. Its always been easier to give in to their whines than to tell them that "no daughter of theirs is going out in that get-up"
(that's what I heard if mom didn't approve). I wear a LOT of black clothing - a legacy from the old days when my mother dictated what was appropriate and what wasn't - and black was definately on the DO NOT WEAR - And DO NOT BUY (even with your own hard earned money) List.... as long as I was living under her roof - she got to call the shots. Sadly, I don't see that kind of discipline in the moms today - LOL it made me strong - and loving black anything...very_happyvery_happyvery_happy

Wow....I see a lot of discussion has gone on in my absence. Everyone makes good points, and I'll just touch on a few for now.

You're right Paula, I was talking about how little insight a woman gives to the man she decides to spend the rest of her life with anymore. In my day (sigh) we knew that there were guys you played around with, and then there were the guys that you knew had more future potential.

Dating someone who's sole goal in life seems to be getting to the next level in W.O.W is all fine and dandy, if that's what makes you happy, but my god, you don't marry the fool!

Just seems to me that no one is really in it for the long-haul anymore. Most of the young girls I talk to seem to feel that it doesn't matter if they chose wisely the first time, cause they can always do it over. You remember "do overs" right? Yeah, that's the mentality I see.

BG, that is the hope that sustains me. That future generations of women can come to the realization that we can be self-sustaining if we chose to. Education is key. So is having a keen intuition of where our country is heading, and what kind of services will be most in demand.

It's more than just "thinking outside the box" A real survivor will learn to tear down the box, one wall at a time, to finally reveal the big picture. Good luck with what you discover when you do. When that time comes, I hope you've chosen wisely.

Rick, I think you're right about women buying inappropriate clothes for their daughers. A couple of years ago the fad for middle school girls was low rider Jeans with the thong showing above the waist band. Why would parents let their kids go out like that?

That's very clever, what you did there at the end with the names very_happy

Some of the tough and resourceful broads like you could maybe pick up an M-16 and survive. But what about the rest?
Because men have, to a large extent, bought into the fallacy that says they need to be more sensitive, thoughtful, sympathetic, mild-mannered creatures, the Brittney Spears wannabes would find out that they’re not as empowered as they thought. If THAT happens, they’re gonna be looking for John Wayne, Tom Selleck, Alan Ladd and Robert Mitchum----and finding John Ritter, Tom Hanks, Alan Alda and Robert Redford.

And I agree with that statement. Our text happy generation will be in for a rude awakening when their cells phones no longer bring pizza to the door.

As far as me picking up an M-16 if I had to, no doubt in my mind I could use one effectively. My husband took me target shooting several times. What I know about guns would take less time to type than the sentence I'm currently typing, however, I do seem to be quite capable of hitting a target more times than not. That's good enough for me. My husband says I'm a natural. He should know, so I'll take his word for it.

Couldn't agree more Kay.

I agree that the message these girls get is derived from the warblings of Ms. Spears et al...but its also from those "rap doods" - you know what I'm talking about - the big guy with the even bigger pants and the heavy gold chains - singing about his HO's and *******... how the purpose of the female is to service the male - that he can use her up however he pleases, after which she needs to shut up and/or go away while he moves on to the next conquest. .
I'm thinking that this can't be a good way for girls to develope any sort of self worth or esteem. I'm thinking that they see themselves as the HO's and ******* of these "thugs" - men that have forgotten that their own mother is a female - and that their sisters are women that other thugs are degrading in thought and deed.

OK - I hope to say more later - but I need to take a break.
