sykora.pat Turns Determination into a Trip to the 2008 WSOP

May 7, 2008 02:10 AM. Post 1
Sunday's WSOP online finals was a sell-out, with a packed house of 42 players desperately trying to nail down their spot on Team PokerRoom.com for the 2008 Main Event. 1st prize was a $17,500 prize package that includes the works - entry fee into the Main Event, airfare, lodging, and the poker trip of a lifetime with all sorts of other perks and VIP treatment for your stay in Vegas.

MANGECLOUS x (who bubbled and just missed finishing in the money in last year's WSOP) was in the hunt, along with other former Team PokerRoomers such as nammer4life (2007 WSOPE) and bmc.100. (2008 Aussie Millions).

sykora.pat held the chip lead in early action, with MANGECLOUS x not far behind. The pace was a blistering one and the field had been trimmed down to six players just two hours into the tournament:

1 sykora.pat 34,795 2 trojan22 xx 30,204 3 MANGECLOUS x 24,982 4 wheelguyII 14,325 5 BoosterLuck 14,110 6 romauro41 7,584

sykora.pat has been a regular fixture in the WSOP online finals of late and was looking to finally capitalize on his early lead and break through and grab his seat at the 2008 Main Event.
MANGECLOUS x was looking to return this year but exited in 6th, wheh his trip 4s were done in by trojan22 xx's flopped full house.

Before you could blink action was three-handed, with the following stacks:

Seat 1: romauro41 ($27,736 in chips) Seat 4: trojan22 xx ($54,642 in chips) Seat 9: sykora.pat ($43,622 in chips) trojan22 xx was poised to be the next to exit, caught playing his Jc Qc a bit too fast when he shoved all-in over the top of romauro41's pre-flop bet of 5,000, making it about 35,000 more to call and hopefully forcing a fold. Unfortunately for trojan22 xx it was the bad time to make such a move, as romauro41 was sitting on Kh Kd and made the snap call.

Like life, poker isn't always fair, which romauro41 found out as the board played out 5c Qh 4c Th Ac, with trojan22 xx rivering his flush to take down a huge hand, eliminating romauro41 and setting up the following heads-up battle:

Seat 4: trojan22 xx ($78,678 in chips) Seat 9: sykora.pat ($47,322 in chips) sykora.pat would drop down as low as 15,000 and looked to be on life support before catching a few lucky breaks and doubling up, battling all the way back until it was virtually tied. The players kept trading all-in pre-flop shoves, with very few flops seen, to the point they were shoving (and calling) with fairly light hands.

It was only a matter of time before the fateful hand arrived, and sykora.pat found himself on the good end of it, all-in preflop with Kd Qc versus trojan22 xx's Js 10s. A board of Kh Jd 3h As 5c virtually sealed the victory for sykora.pat, and trojan22 xx's few remaining chips slid his way a couple of hands later.

Congrats to sykora.pat for the 1st place finish and $17,500 prize package and to to trojan22 xx for the 2nd place showing, worth $1,253 + a ticket to a future finals.
