Little over a year (yup, you eventually stop being able to give an exact time frame mad ). I read the Allen Carr book and quit smoking afterward. I'm hesitant to say I quit because of it. It claims I'd never want to smoke again...

It's full of circular, and otherwise faulty logic. I think it's almost like getting hypnotised. Kind of neat actually. Anyway, I had a baby on the way and if you have motivation and ignore all the logical fallacies and blatant lies it's a good tool. Good luck. happy

PR is rigged and I know cuz I'm really really really good and I still lose.

Ive heard the book has helped a lot of people although I agree with suf,Its almost self hypnosis/self application of cognitive behavioural therapy.I found the book helpless in my stopping smoking but interesting from a psychology/structural point of view.

Alan carr died of lung cancer linked to his earlier heavy smoking habits i believe a er... year or two ago.

Gl to all those who are trying to stop/have stopped, its a very wise move.

Suf,hope u stopped drinking too whilst pregnant? wink

totally agree.. i think the book helps u realise a few things and yep the physcological (?) side to smoking, eg the brain washing and hence the reverse to that.
at the end of the day u have to want it, and have ure own self motivation.

well done to all who have and intend to give up

wise choice and ure only choice.. very_happy

Very true, although im sceptical about the seriousness of the amount of harm done by passive smoking tbh.

I remember the book advising the reader not to stop smoking until theyd finished the book, sounds like the 'live'counselling took the same approach.

Must admit that the one thing that still sticks in my head from the book is the realligning of the 'giving up' approach and how the language one uses is all about sacrificing something, instead of his cognitive approach making you think of what you would GAIN from cessation,health/control/financial gain/longevity etc.found this interesting and was the best tenent of the book for me happy

The psychology of why we smoke is an interesting topic.Nicotine addiction from a physical point of view is very easily overcome as the ability of the body to retain it is very limited(48-72hrs i think?)despite it being one,if not the most, fastest acting substances known to man(total bloodstream/nervous system involvement 7secs from inhilation?)

We know the facts regarding the adverse effects on health, longivity etc, they are even printed in stark language on all packs here, yet we still choose to smoke.why is this? must dash but u will b pleased to hear i may post a long dull rambling thread next week on 'Deathwish'psychology and the complex nature of a true self destructive streak in personality studies :P very_happy

Was a Smoker for 26yrs, smoked a lot of weed in that time to. Been smoke free for the last 10mnths with the help of 'Champix' tablets of the doctor. Worked a treat for me.

Instead of giving you an alternative source of Nicotine, they actually switch off the Nicotine receptors in your brain.

Be warned though, some people cant take them as they can have some bad side effects. Apart from occasional headaches and tiredness my only other side effects were some totally surreal dreams that i really liked. happy

Best thing I ever did. Good luck to all who are trying wink
