When to rebuy

Jul 11, 2008 03:18 PM. Post 1
I haven't tried a rebuy tourney yet and am wondering if anyone can give me hints. Is it better to rebuy early or leave it until add in?

I don't know much about rebuy strategy but one thing is to not rebuy if the blinds are up. You're just wasting your money buying 10-15bbs.

Yes . Im lower level but allow 1 rebuy if needed. I have seen people rebuy 8 times. Guess their insane or have too much money.
You see folk rebuying when others on table have 6 times their chips. Madness but who cares if they want to throw away money. Like sufur its a No rebuy unless its early for me. Some would disagree im thinking though. very_happy

i do so immediately - rebuy before the first hand, start with double the stack, and then add-on. i definitely think it's +EV.
it means you're usually paying 3x the standard buy-in, though, so you need to take that into account when deciding if you have the bankroll for a given tournament.

as for rebuying heaps of times, there's some merit in that too, although not as much online as live, i don't think. daniel negreanu rebought 27 times in a 2006 wsop rebuy knowing that he was the best player at his table, so if he just pumped chips into the table he could just win them back again and go into the later stages of the tournament with a monster stack. so he ended up paying just under $30k for the tournament, and ended up going real deep (2nd or 3rd i think) and making a $100k profit.

Yea I've heard there's merits to playing really loose and rebuying a lot. That's an extreme example :P

Personally, I'll play my draws really aggressive and go for more perceived races.

but i think i saw an interview with durr a few days ago where he spent 100k in buy-ins in a 5k plo rebuy event, and didn't make the money - so it can bite you in the ***.

There are several thing to take in consideration in rebuys. Nothing is more frustrating than shoving light to try to loosen up the table and noone wants to gamble..The lower you go in buy-in, the more rebuy-nuts you will find.

In $5s and $10s I gamble with the donks and always double-rebuy. Can go up to 15 buy-ins here happy In $50s I tighten up because we won`t find these reckless plays as often, so playing little tighter is good. 2k addon is worth taking, and I use maybe 5 buyins.

If my stack is over 10 buyins, I might refuse to take addon because the chips is worth less.

I think you can do well by playing tight and openshove/call a tight range in the lower buy-ins, so if your primal focus is to get it in the money, you can show a good profit that way. Not uncommon to see the last payout-spots rewards 4-5x the buyin happy

That being said, I play these mainly to give myself a change to win big, so the bigger my bankroll is the more I like to gamble.
