| Presentation | Once upon a time, there was a university in Canada that was interested in game theory, and they put up a website for testing poker AI clients, called Poki. I got addicted one summer. Happy days, my mates Gadget (who didn't have the slightest clue, but loved to chat) and Sigma993 (who turned out to be a patent lawyer) kept me amused for hours while we spent play dollars like millionaires. From Poki, we get Carp's Law #2, which is: another hand will be along in a minute. (There was, of course, a Carp's Law #1, but I forget what it was.) Then, cruelly, they shut down for Labor Day weekend. Withdrawal symptoms kicked in quickly, and I signed up with Pacific Poker. I made a whole lot more friends there, and learned how to play against real people (albeit for play money). Eventually, I got up the courage to put real money on the table, & fronted up £20 or so on Ladbrokes. The rest, as they say, is history. *Marc endorses Stacked with Daniel Negreanu, up to a point. It's good training in patience, but not very realistic. The update patches aren't compatible with software bought in Europe owing to the copy protection. >: |
