About me

Presentation Hey, thanks for visiting, and greetings from Bristol, England! (Update: now living in Northampton... anyone from around these parts?)

Seeing as you're here, write something - nice, preferably - in my guestbook. Either that or get out of here, you're trespassing! Especial greetings to any Liverpool and and Bristol City fans out there!

Take care and see you...

The Pokerroom Lament

It's looking good, I've got the cards with which I'll have them beat
I'll bet a hundred chips to see how many players compete!
Five guys fold, the next one checks, then toss_pot raised 300.
A call, a fold and then it's me - I add in my 200.
The flop comes down, it's bad for some but a little smile for me -
The 2 of spades, the 9 of hearts and a harmless little 3.
I set aside near half my stack - 600 for the pot
Well if you think you're hard enough then show us what you've got!
The person playing after me lays down like rookies should,
But toss_pot calls my monster bet - I knew the f*cker would.
All the others fold their cards; it's a duel to the end,
The turn comes up the Queen of clubs - you fancy that, my friend?
And sure he did, for when I bet, he raised me like a pro
500 chips to call his bluff, but I'll double through I know.
The river card: the 7 of hearts - I can't suppress a grin,
The straight's not on, the boats are out, so I raise my friend all-in.
The betting's done, I'm out of chips, let's see what's in his pocket
He flips a 7 and 2 off suit - and beats my f*cking rockets!

IS HELL EXOTHERMIC OR ENDOTHERMIC?

This one's been around for a while on the internet but for anyone who's not read it - it's a treat...

A thermodynamics professor had written a take-home exam for his graduate students. It had one question:

"Is hell exothermic or endothermic? Support your answer with a proof. For non-science majors, exothermic is when something releases heat, and endothermic is when something generates heat."

Most of the students wrote proofs of their beliefs relying solely on variants of the universal gas law. One student, however, wrote the following:

"First, we postulate that if souls exist, they must have some mass. So, at what rate are souls moving into hell, and at what rate are they leaving? I think we can safely assume that, once a soul gets to hell, it will not leave. Therefore no souls are leaving. As for souls entering hell, let's look at the different religions that exist in the world today.

"Some of these religions state that if you are not a follower then you will go to hell. Since there are more than one of these religions and people do not follow more than one religion, we can project that all people and all souls go to hell. With birth and death rates as they are, we can expect the number of souls in hell to increase exponentially.

"Now we look at the rate of change in volume in hell. Boyle's Law states that in order for the temperature and pressure in hell to stay the same, the ratio of the mass of souls and volume needs to stay constant.

"Predicate #1: So, if hell is expanding at a slower rate than the rate at which souls enter hell, then the temperature and pressure in hell will increase until all hell breaks loose.

"Predicate #2: Of course, if hell is expanding at a rate faster than the increasing numbers of souls in hell, then the temperature and pressure will drop until hell freezes over.

"So which is it? If we accept the postulate given to me by Jennifer Smith during Freshman year, and take into account that I still have not succeeded in having sexual relations with her, then predicate #2 cannot be true, and hell is exothermic."
