Ficenc8 Doesn't Hesitate with a WSOP Trip on the Line - by Seth Shafer

May 12, 2008 Friday kicked off another four day stretch of WSOP mania at PokerRoom with an online finals guaranteed to send one player packing their bags for Las Vegas and the $17,500 prize package that awaits them there.

Of the 34 players that turned out for the finals there were plenty of fresh new faces as well as WSOP finals regulars and former Team PokerRoomers such as bmc.100., Wieringen, croywhale, and –Rex Cramer-.

And it was none other than -Rex Cramer- sitting in the chip lead at the first break, trailed by Iron_Iron and xschipperx. -Rex Cramer- would put those chips to good use, riding them to a spot in the final five players remaining just after the second break:

Seat 1: WA_Trucker ($39,592 in chips)
Seat 3: croywhale ($16,750 in chips)
Seat 4: Ficenc8 ($18,560 in chips)
Seat 8: -Rex Cramer- ($8,190 in chips)
Seat 9: spekulant1 ($18,908 in chips)

While WA Trucker seemed to be in control, things would quickly go south for him, beginning when Ficenc8 doubled through him in a huge pot with pocket queens versus pocket eights. That hand gave Ficenc8 the chip lead and left WA Trucker as the short stack at the table, and he’d exit shortly after in 5th when his 9s 9c ran into croywhale’s Ad As.

Unlike some of the online finals, Friday’s not only saw action stretching to the third break, but there were still 4 players battling it out:

Seat 3: croywhale ($16,132 in chips)
Seat 4: Ficenc8 ($53,872 in chips)
Seat 8: -Rex Cramer- ($8,160 in chips)
Seat 9: spekulant1 ($23,836 in chips)

-Rex Cramer- would bow out in 4th when his pre-flop shove with As 10h was looked up by Ficenc8 and his Qs 4d, with a queen on the flop sealing –Rex Cramer-‘s fate.

(While we’ve had to write –Rex Cramer-‘s obituary here more than a few time in the recaps on the WSOP online finals, it’s only fair to point out that he’s been absolutely crushing the tournament tables at PokerRoom.com this year, booking a profit of more than $55,000 in 2008 and including many $1,000+ cashes and a $17,000 score in the $50,000 European Rebuy in April.)

spekulant1 would be the next victim at the hands of Ficenc8, this time falling not from a bad beat but from simply running into a dominating hand. spekulant1 shoved all-in pre-flop with Ah 7d but had the bad timing to run info Ficenc8’s Ad Qh, with the better hand holding up.

That set up the following heads-up match, with croywhale facing a long uphill climb if he was going to win:

Seat 3: croywhale ($9,732 in chips)
Seat 4: Ficenc8 ($92,268 in chips)

While croywhale did get one double-up, in the end Ficenc8’s stack and run of hot cards proved too mighty, with the players getting it all-on on a flop of Ac 9d 5h. Ficenc8’s show of weakness encouraged croywhale to shove with just Kd 8h, but Ficenc8 was slowplaying Ah 2s, and his top pair proved enough to take down the victory and the $17,500 prize package to the 2008 WSOP. Congrats to the winners and all the players that entered to send yet another PokerRoomer to the 2008 Main Event.
