NUTS6020- is Ready to Go Nuts in Vegas - by Seth Shafer

Jun 3, 2008 Saturday saw another packed house for the WSOP online finals, and lots of familiar faces in the field, including monze1, retypeNick, whassup x, and -NUTS6020-, all of whom were just in Las Vegas in April with Team PokerRoom.com for the WPT Championships at the Bellagio.

Three of those players would make a deep run in Saturday’s action, still in the hunt when the field was trimmed down to just five players, with one of them guaranteed to take home a $17,500 prize package to the WSOP:

Seat 1: wolfwolf49 ($32,342 in chips)
Seat 4: monze1 ($33,322 in chips)
Seat 5: -NUTS6020- ($21,215 in chips)
Seat 7: retypeNick ($16,958 in chips)
Seat 9: moneypirat1 ($22,163 in chips)

retypeNick’s run would end in 5th when he found himself all-in against wolfwolf49 on a flop of Qc 7d 7s. retypeNick was holding Qh Js for top pair but found himself out-kicked by wolfwolf49’s Ks Qs, with the Qd on the turn and the Kd on the river sealing retypeNick’s fate.

moneypirat1 followed in 4th when he was knocked out by monze1, which set up the following stacks for three-handed play:

Seat 1: wolfwolf49 ($24,997 in chips)
Seat 4: monze1 ($59,573 in chips)
Seat 5: -NUTS6020- ($41,430 in chips)

wolfwolf49 was knocked out in 3rd when he and monze1 tangled, with all the chips going in pre-flop and wolfwolf49 holding 4s 4d versus monze1’s Qd Qc. The queens held to knock wolfwolf49 out and to give monze1 the lead when heads-up action started:

Seat 4: monze1 ($84,570 in chips)
Seat 5: -NUTS6020- ($41,430 in chips)


-NUTS6020- steadily chipped away at the lead, though, until he found himself in the lead, with nearly a 2-1 advantage when the final explosive hand was dealt.

With blinds of 600/1,200 -NUTS6020- raised to 3,000 pre-flop and monze1 made the call. The flop came Ah 9c 8d and monze1 led out for 3,600, -NUTS6020- re-raised to 8,000, and monze1 shoved the rest of his chips in. -NUTS6020- super-insta-called and tabled Ac Ad for top set, which turned out to be the mortal nuts as monze1 held bottom two pair with 9d 8h.

The meanngless turn and river peeled off and -NUTS6020- took down the pot, the victory, and the $17,500 prize package that will send him back to Vegas just a few months after his last trip. monze1 collected $1,253 + a ticket to a futre online finals for his 2nd place showing.
