WSOP 2008 The excitement is mounting as May the 30th is around the corner and the most thrilling event for all poker lovers, the World Series of Poker (WSOP) 2008 is scheduled to commence. World Series of Poker 2008, the 39th edition of the tournament is to be played at the Rio All-Suite Hotel & Casino, Las Vegas. The tournament featuring 55 bracelet events with buy-ins up to $50,000 will be held from May 30th to July 7th. The interest in the game has been growing from as early as the 19th century but credit is given to Mr. Benny Binion who hosted the first ever World Series of Poker in the year 1970. |

In 1970, the first World Series of Poker was held at Binion's Horseshoe as a series of cash games and Johnny Moss, the first champion, was awarded a silver cup. Games such as Five-card stud, Deuce to seven low-ball draw, Razz, Seven-card stud, and Texas Hold'em had been played. Cash prizes were awarded from the second championship held in 1971. | The World Series of Poker - Europe Harrah's Entertainment announced that it would be launching the World Series of Poker in Europe in September 2007. The Europe World Series of Poker events will be held at London Club International casinos in the U.K. The WSOP Europe Main Event is said to be a six day 10.000 pound (USD 19,650 or 17,870 Euros) No-Limit Texas Hold'em Championship. |
