American Idol Top Ten

Mar 23, 2008 08:27 PM. Mensaje 1
Who's making the grade so far? I will attempt to sum up each contestants strengths, as well as their weaknesses. Keep in mind that these are my opinions. You may have a different opinion and that's fine...it's wrong, but it's fine happy

So here we go, Ladies first:

Brooke White: I've eaten baby food that wasn't as bland as she is. She has a nice voice, and she's easy on the eyes, but she has absolutely no spark, and about as much chance of being the next American Idol as I do....except that she's actually there and I'm not.

Carly Smithson: I think she has had one performance that almost blew me away. We're done. It's a shame too because after all the hype about her, I really wanted to be blown away, but unless she's saving the best for last, she's not going to win.

Kristy Lee Cook: About all I can say about this girl, besides the fact that she's pretty, is that she takes criticism well. I don't think she's cried on the show yet, and lord knows, she hasn't had a lot of positive things to gnaw on from the judges. She's got to know that she's only still there because of her pretty face and ok voice. Not enough to be the next American Idol by a long shot though.

Ramiele Malubay: I don't know why, but based on her auditions, I expected so much more from her and frankly, if she were a city, I'd have to declare her a "Disaster Area" She fails to choose the right song every week, she has no personality that I can see except that she cries a lot, and for her to win this thing, monkeys would have to fly right out of her ass.

Syesha Mercado: She has had mostly consistent performances, but again, like Carly, she hasn't had that one performance that stands out in my mind. She has the potential to be a late starter like Jordin Sparks though. I remember the exact moment when I knew Jordan Sparks was going to win. It was when she sang Broken Wing. Syesha has the stuff, and it will be interesting to see what she will do in the next few weeks. She just needs the right song, and to sing the hell out of it.

The Guys:

Chikezie Eze: What can you say about this guy? He's likable, he's fun to watch occasionally, but he's got almost no chance of being the next AI. He just does not have that "wow" factor. I don't think he has ever managed to find his comfort zone. It's almost uncomfortable to watch him because, it's as if he knows he's the little fish swimming in the shark tank, and they are going to eat him alive. Instead of trying to rise to the occasion, he's content to just swim in the corner hoping they don't notice him. He just doesn't have the right stuff to win.

David Archuleta: Well, the judges definitely love this kid, and America seems to as well. I'm sure I'm in the minority when I say he leaves me as empty as my wallet the day before payday. Sure, he's a sweet kid, and a personable one too, and, there's no denying he can sing. I'm not sure what it is about him that I just can't warm up to. Maybe I'm just thinking with my libido, but he just doesn't electrify me. I will have to grudgingly admit that he does have a decent chance of winning this thing though.....sigh....

David Cook: Now, here's a David that excites me each and every week, with the exception of last week when he didn't do quite as well. It's not his good looks either, because he's not that good looking, but he has the "it" factor. One of the few times I agree completely with Paula. He knows how to perform, he knows how to get the audience involved, he knows how to put his own spin on a song, and he knows how to be memorable. I'm sure he realizes he will never have a better chance to make the big time, and he is giving a 110% each week. He's hungry for this and it shows in his preparation. Although, to be fair to the rest, he does have a lot more experience performing than most of the other contestants. Still, he's my favorite to win so far.

Jason Castro: I can't help but like this guy. He doesn't have the "it" factor either, but he's almost so cute, you don't care. He's had some really good performances that stand out for me, but I'm just not sure exactly what shape hole this odd peg fits in. You know what I mean? He's really good at ballads, but ballads don't sell out stadiums unless you're Frank Sinatra, and he's no Frank Sinatra. I'm not sure what they'd do with him if he won. Micheal Johns: I'm so on the fence with this guy. One week I think I like him, and the next week he picks some really lame-ass song which totally does not fit his voice and I just wanna cringe. He needs to take a lesson from David Cook and choose better songs or he will not last 3 more weeks.

In closing, I will just say, I predict that the first name of the next American Idol will be David. As to the last name, that's still up for grabs at this point. I'll go as far as to say that there will be two David's in the top 3 this year. Still not sure who will be the 3rd. Maybe Syesha?

I'm really sad Amanda Overmeyer is off. She was one of my fav. There are some others that should have been gone before her.

I wish Amanda was still in it too Pattie. I would have loved the chance to "evaulate" her performance in print very_happy

Yes Ant, your aussie guy is still in it. He is the one I am currently on the fence with. He has great potential, but can't seem to find that one stand out performance that he needs to really make an impact on America. I hope he does better this week, cause I do like the guy.

None of them have really blown me away this time. And usually at least one does. This year I’ll take David Archuleta as the best of a mediocre bunch. And admittedly, I don’t put as much emphasis on the “it” factor as I probably should.
I’ve only picked the winner one time, and I STILL haven’t gotten over Latoya London AND Jennifer Hudson losing out to Fantasia. IMO Fantasia didn’t even belong in the top 3, Diana DeGarmo should have finished 3rd.

Here’s the way it should have been:
Kelly Clarkson
Clay Aiken
LaToya London
Bo Bice
Elliott Yamin
Melinda Doolittle

Hi Sis, Very well written and insightful.

I enjoy idol. I pretty much agree, I really don't understand Brooke White still being on , she is an annoying Joni Mitchell wannabee LOL

I enjoyed Andrea Overmeyer. She reminded me of the great women rockers I like, i.e. Janis Joplin, Melissa Ethridge and Joss Stone. But she was too self indulgent with her off the wall song choices and that hair would never put her in the main stream.

I'm hoping David Cook takes it this year. All around great performer.
But it would be a first for a rocker type. At least all the really good ones go on and get much better contracts then if they win anyway.

Look at Daughtry, Bo Bice, rockers that are doing very well. Daughtry's performance of "I walk the line" was one of the finest of AI.
As much as I enjoy the
show, the winners are also picked for their marketabilty on a wide genre. Rockers don't usually win sad I hope this time he does.
Sayesta may be the last one standing if she gets her song choice together. Her voice reminds me of a young Whitney but a bit lesser.
Chikezie cracks me up, I really like him and his enthusiam but he needs a Glady's Knight to come on and call him a "Velvet Teddy".
Well like I said very well written Missy and everyone that really has talent goes on to the big buck contracts anyway....Jennifer Hudson? LOL

Hey Fog,
I really wanted Elliot to win and Melinda Doolittle too. Shame they didn't.

Thought I'd let you know Elliot has cut a CD, it is alright. He could have done better, but I listened to it on Amazon, I still plan on ordering it very_happyvery_happy

Funny you should mention Daughtry's version of I walk the line. It's one of my favorite AI performances and I still say he could have a hit single with this song.

Ha! Sis, thinking with her libido. very_happy You sexy diva. very_happyvery_happy

Well, I don't know their names. I like the Janis Joplin chick, but she's gone now. She wasn't versatile enough, so I could see that coming.

I like the kid. As far as singing, he seems to have the best natural ability except for maybe the next person I'll discuss, but he's so young, and that will be his undoing. I can't get over the fact that while I was listening to him when he was singing "Imagine", I like it alot...while at the same time Sis was watching the same performance wondering if the kid had hair on his balls yet. Funny stuff.

My fav is the chick with black hair. By far the strongest voice in the competition, due to the age she has over the kid. I like her. She's a great singer, I just wonder, sadly, if she's "hot" enough to win.
