claretbluejr Definitely Didn't Have the Monday Blues - by Seth Shafer

May 8, 2008 Monday wrapped up yet another four day non-stop WSOP frenzy on PokerRoom, with 38 players turning out for the $17,500 prize package up for grab in the day’s WSOP online finals.

duglobi17 sat atop the leaderboard at the first break with sak31 (who represented Team PokerRoom at last year’s WSOP) not far behind. Two hours into the event and the final table lineup was set:

claretbluejr 36,181
StrokerAce75 24,032
duglobi17 9,515
DuckMySick34 8,678
KristapsK3 7,464
ChekenKostet 6,859
nammer4life 6,272
sak31 6,155
dawj3z 5,199
meistr 3,645

nammer4life was making a strong run at the final table when his pocket kings were cracked by StrokerAce75’s pocket eights, with all the money going in on a flop of 8d 5c 3s.

With the field trimmed down to four, claretbluejr was still leading the way:

Seat 1: DuckMySick34 ($5,878 in chips)
Seat 2: StrokerAce75 ($36,016 in chips)
Seat 3: KristapsK3 ($21,820 in chips)
Seat 8: claretbluejr ($50,286 in chips)

Action remained four-handed for quite awhile as the players swapped chips and short stacks refused to bow out. StrokerAce75 finally exited in 4th when his Qc 8h ran into KristapsK3’s Qh 9s on a Qd 9h 4s.

Just as happened when action was four-handed, three-handed play continued for many hands before anyone was eliminated. Each remaining player (DuckMySick34, KristapsK3, claretbluejr) got short-stacked and faced elimination at various points, only to come roaring back.

Finally a player hit the rails, as KristapsK3 was short-stacked and shoved all-in for his last 13,000 and change, with both DuckMySick34 and claretbluejr making the call. Facing a board of Qd Qs 7d As, DuckMySick34 folded to claretbluejr’s bet of 15,000, and claretbluejr and his Ad Jh was well ahead of KristapsK3’s Ah 10d. The 9s on the river gave the hand to claretbluejr, with KristapsK3 finishing 3rd and the following stacks when heads-up play began:

Seat 1: DuckMySick34 ($13,744 in chips)
Seat 8: claretbluejr ($100,256 in chips)

The end came swiftly with DuckMySick34 shoving all-in pre-flop with As 5h and claretbluejr making the easy call with Ah Kh. No suckout for DuckMySick34 and claretbluejr was the winner, taking down the $17,500 top prize and leaving DuckMySick34 with 2nd place of $586 + a future finals ticket.

Kudos to all the players and especially to claretbluejr for the impressive victory, leading throughout much of the tournament before taking down the top prize.

And don’t forget now Pokah is going to the WSOP and they want you to come! Read and get involved with this today!!!
