chewie333 Hopes to Chew Up the Field at the Main Event - by Seth Shafer

Jun 4, 2008 Yet another WSOP online finals at PokerRoom on Sunday, yet another sell-out, with the max of 42 players jousting it out to see who would finish on top and take down the $17,500 prize package to the WSOP.

The final table was set a few hours into the action, with some familiar faces still in the hunt:

Seat 1: KingFranky x ($13,171 in chips)
Seat 2: rambo2448 ($14,182 in chips)
Seat 3: Ezzyman ($12,370 in chips)
Seat 4: whassup x ($14,260 in chips)
Seat 5: Gutenburg1 ($19,600 in chips)
Seat 6: russchampio ($11,675 in chips)
Seat 7: -Rex Cramer- ($5,752 in chips)
Seat 8: Kunyi5 ($8,205 in chips)
Seat 9: F1nAll ($12,980 in chips)
Seat 10: chewie333 ($13,805 in chips)

whassup x, Gutenburg1, and –Rex Cramer- have all been regulars at the online finals of late, with each still chasing an elusive seat with time running out before the Main Event gets underway. All three seemed determined to give it their best effort on Sunday, as they were still in the thick of things when just five players remained:

Seat 4: whassup x ($38,078 in chips)
Seat 5: Gutenburg1 ($25,511 in chips)
Seat 6: russchampio ($8,550 in chips)
Seat 7: -Rex Cramer- ($32,806 in chips)
Seat 10: chewie333 ($21,055 in chips)

Gutenburg1 would eventually exit in 5th, though, and whassup x would follow him in 4th. Russchampio would bow out in 3rd to set up the following heads-up battle:

Seat 7: -Rex Cramer- ($72,945 in chips)
Seat 10: chewie333 ($53,055 in chips)

After swapping chips back and forth for awhile chewie333 forged ahead into a slight lead, when the two players tangled for one last time.

With blinds of 800/1,600, chewie333 bet 4,400 pre-flop, which –Rex Cramer- called. The flop was 7s 8h 6s and all of the chips flew into the middle, with chewie333 holding Ks 9s for both a flush and a straight draw, and –Rex Cramer- holding 9d Js, for the straight draw. Not only did chewie333 have the better draw but he was actually ahead in the hand with K high as well.

The turn was the 3d and the river the 6c, which meant that chewie333’s king high hand was good enough to take down the pot and the victory, locking up the $17,500 prize package to the WSOP. –Rex Cramer- once again came up a bit short, collecting $1,253 + a ticket to a future online finals for his runner-up finish.
