Sunday saw yet another edition of one of PokerRoom's hottest new tournaments, the ChampionChip, which runs the first Sunday of ever month and features a $500,000 guaranteed prize pool.

1852 players turned out for June's ChampionChip held on Sunday, with each and every player having one goal in mind: outlasting the competition and taking down 1st place prize money of $110,000. But getting there would take a long, long day of their best poker, as it'd take hours and hours of play before a winner was declared.

171 players were still alive at the five hour mark, with pedevejle1 leading the pack. Fast forward two more hours and the field was trimmed down to 33, but pedevejle1 was still leading the way, with beberuchet86 in 2nd and malle46 in 3rd.

After more than 8 hours of play, a final table was finally reached:


Seat 1: beberuchet86 ($929,529 in chips)
Seat 2: risholt ($185,552 in chips)
Seat 3: xoxo64 ($377,218 in chips)
Seat 4: malle46 ($1,151,350 in chips)
Seat 5: momi1972 ($327,666 in chips)
Seat 6: riva07 ($271,600 in chips)
Seat 7: GoldFutere ($841,240 in chips)
Seat 8: kmazl2 ($421,416 in chips)
Seat 9: treesurgn6 ($394,677 in chips)
Seat 10: -BROKEDONK- ($655,752 in chips)

GoldFutere (who finished 3rd in last month's ChampionChip) would exit in 6th (worth $15,000), with treesurgn6 finishing in 5th ($20,000) and malle46 bounced out in 4th ($30,000).

That set up the following three-handed action, with moe than $200,000 in prize money at stake:


Seat 5: momi1972 ($3,405,761 in chips)
Seat 6: riva07 ($331,138 in chips)
Seat 10: -BROKEDONK- ($1,819,101 in chips)

Even with riva07 on a very short stack (after dipping as low as 50,000 at one point), -BROKEDONK- and momi1972 found themselves all-in pre-flop in a huge pot, in what turned out to be a battle of big pocket pairs.

-BROKEDONK- held pocket queens and was in great shape to double up against momi1972's pocket jacks, but the fickle poker gods had something else in mind, as a flop of Js 7d Kd was back-breaking for -BROKEDONK-, and he got no help on the turn or river. While a very tough beat to take at that stage, -BROKEDONK- did collect $40,000 for his 3rd place finish.

That set up the following stacks when heads-up play began:


Seat 5: momi1972 ($4,796,896 in chips)
Seat 6: riva07 ($759,104 in chips)

While riva07 gave it a good go, in the end the chip deficit was too much to overcome. The final blow came in an unraised pot when both players saw a flop of 5d 2c 4c. All of their chips found their way into the middle and riva07 flipped over 8c 5s for top pair but found himself outkicked and in a bad way versus momi1972's Js 5c.

momi1972's better kicker held up in the hand to take down not just that pot but 1st prize as well, worth a whopping $111,000. While no one is happy to finish runner-up, riva07 had $61,000 reasons to not be too disappointed about his 2nd place finish.
