PokerRoom.com’s Poker Race Trophy Competition Rolls into Brands Hatch - By Seth Shafer

Aug 20, 2008 The latest stop on PokerRoom.com’s Poker Race Trophy promotion was recently completed at the Brands Hatch circuit in the UK, with 8 players from PokerRoom coming together for an amazing weekend of poker, racing, and fun. The Race Trophy competition consists of 6 semi-final stops on the FIA WTCC racing circuit (Brazil, Spain, the Czech Republic, the UK, Germany, and Italy), with a private tournament for PokerRoom qualifiers held at each race track-side. Each private tournament (filmed and broadcast later by Eurosport) would send the winner on to the grand finale tournament in Vienna, Austria, where the six winners of each semi-final tournament would meet in a $500,000 guaranteed tournament with the following payouts: 1st place - $285,000 2nd place - $100,000 3rd place - $50,000 4th place - $35,000 5th place - $20,000 6th place - $10,000 Players can qualify on PokerRoom.com through freerolls or Sit & Go leaderboard competitions, with winners being flown to the race and treated to a lavish, all-expenses paid vacation while they’re there. As far as the action at Brands Hatch, a very familiar face, Marky_Crash, was still standing when the tournament had played down to heads-up action. Marky_Crash has dominated the Sit & Go leaderboard competition on PokerRoom, with Brands Hatch being the third time he’d qualified for a Race Trophy live event. He was still looking for that elusive seat in the finals in Vienna, though, and it came down to him and Balthazar73 in heads-up action with the seat in the finals on the line (which is worth at minimum $10,000). In the end it was finally Marky_Crash’s day, as with blinds escalating the players were forced to make a stand, and all the chips found their way into the middle with Marky_Crash holding A 10 and Balthazar73 holding K J. The board helped neither player and Marky_Crash’s A high was good enough to give him the victory, the seat in the finals in Vienna, and more than a few reasons to celebrate that night!
