Sompas Serves Up Quite the Performance in the Grand XXVIII - By Seth Shafer

Sep 5, 2008 The latest edition of PokerRoom's biggest and boldest tournament - the Grand Tournament XXVIII - took place August 29th-August 31st. The three day event is not only PokerRoom's biggest buy-in tournament, but this month's Grand was even bigger than normal, with a record guaranteed prize pool of $1 million in cold, hard cash.

The huge prize pool meant that the winner would walk away with more than $185,000, with the last six players guaranteed at least $30,000 for just making the final table. 984 players turned out for the first two starting days, with the remaining field returning on Sunday to see who would finish the day nearly $200,000 richer.

When the last chips were stacked, it was Sompas with all of them in front of him, having secured first place and a payday of $185,800. SpinalCrapX was the runner-up, collecting a very nice consolation prize of $120,000, with El_Kabongg taking third ($80,000).
