otarek Books a Trip Down Under - By Seth Shafer

Sep 24, 2008 Just when you thought the live event qualifying mania was over, PokerRoom kicked it up a notch. The Double Trouble online finals are done (which sent players to both the WPT Canada event and the PokerNews Cup event in Melbourne), but that just meant that it was time to start up the 2009 Aussie Millions online finals!

Team PokerRoom is gearing up to send a huge team to the next Aussie Millions and online finals for the event kicked off last Saturday, with an Aussie Millions trip package worth $18,000 up for grabs to the winner.

The capacity field of 45 runners contained lots of familiar faces from past live events who’d represented Team PokerRoom, including whassup x, AREZ_ONE, dj_stiff, greatprdcer, Wieringen, AKplus, nammer4life, bigbalu67, and MickeMusxxx.

Piter_ jumped out to an early lead in Saturday’s event, with JIMMY-Paris sitting atop the field at the 2 hour mark. The final table lineup was set shortly after the 2nd break, with lots of Team PokerRoom veterans still in the hunt for another tour of duty with the team:

Seat 1: karamuro34 ($6,996 in chips)
Seat 2: JIMMY-Paris ($35,240 in chips)
Seat 3: greatprducer ($12,422 in chips)
Seat 4: otarek ($8,970 in chips)
Seat 5: whassup x ($15,966 in chips)
Seat 7: dj_stiff ($19,205 in chips)
Seat 8: AREZ_ONE ($19,780 in chips)
Seat 9: Minge xx ($4,052 in chips)
Seat 10: Piter_ ($12,369 in chips)

With the final table trimmed down to four players, otarek had made a big move to go from one of the short stacks to the chip lead:

Seat 2: JIMMY-Paris ($29,916 in chips)
Seat 4: otarek ($61,280 in chips)
Seat 5: whassup x ($9,368 in chips)
Seat 7: dj_stiff ($34,436 in chips)

His stack would continue to grow, as JIMMY-Paris exited in 4th just before otarek won a huge pot to eliminate dj_stiff in 3rd, when dj_stiff shoved pre-flop with As 3s and otarek looked him up with Ah Qc.

That left whassup x and otarek to battle it out heads-up for the trip to the Aussie Millions, but whassup x facing a pretty massive chip deficit:

Seat 4: otarek ($126,664 in chips)
Seat 5: whassup x ($8,336 in chips)

That deficit proved too much to make up, as otarek finished him off quickly to claim the top prize of the $18,000 trip package to the 2009 Aussie Millions, with whassup x having to settle for $882 + a finals ticket for his runner up finish.
