Maybe We Should Just Name it Team gbpoker.com Instead of Team PokerRoom.com

Saturday saw another Aussie Millions online finals come and go, with 41 players turning out trying to join Herc_Ned and janus1984 on the Team PokerRoom.com roster for the Aussie Millions.
It was yet another star-studded field, with plenty of former Team PokerRoomers and other notables turning out. Firework, Lewie_01, and sak31 were there to represent Team PokerRoom.com members from this year’s WSOP Main Event, while dj_stiff (who cashed for over $50,000 at Niagara Falls) and xx Black1 were there to represent the WPT Canada crew.
pom_1962 was also in the field, fresh off his deep run at the Miami Styles finals in Hamburg, as well as Pokah regular Puggy82. who undoubtedly had lots of railbirds cheering him on.
gbpoker and whassup x were also in the field, and they’ve both already booked two different trips with Team PokerRoom.com, representing the team at the WSOP Main Event and at the WPT North American Poker Championship at Niagara Falls.
Firework held the chip lead at the first break, trailed by mosomoso and Payaso llI. By the second break, KlorEs had charged into the lead, with barte in 2nd and Puggy82 in 3rd.
whassup x made a big move right before the final table, rocketing up to 18,000 after picking up KK and JJ in the span of five or six hands (as well as losing a big pot with 77 vs. AQ when his opponent rivered a straight). When the dust settled, here was your lineup for the final table:
Puggy82 would pick up a huge hand when it was 8 handed. With blinds of 800/1600, whassup x led out for 5,000 from early position, and Firework moved all-in for 10,995. Puggy82 quickly moved all-in himself for 19,360, and action folded back to whassup x who dwelled for a bit before folding what he claimed were jacks.
Firework would turn over 10 10 but find himself a big underdog to Puggy82’s K K, and with no help from the board Firework was eliminated and Puggy82 took the chip lead with nearly 40,000 in chips.
AAssAAss1 x would be the unlucky bubble boy, exiting in 5th when his 5 5 ran into gbpoker’s 7 7. Puggy82’s stack would take a big hit when his A10 ran into gbpoker’s AJ, leading Puggy82 to be forced to attempt to steal the blinds with 5c 6d.
Unfortunately for him, gbpoker had just enough of a hand to call his all-in from the small blind, and gbpoker’s Ks 10c was good enough to take the hand and the chip lead. Puggy82 would finish 4th, collecting a $650 +$50 ticket for a future finals.
At that point gbpoker was sitting on about 65,000, with barte at 41,000, and KlorEs at 14,000. Due to connection problems, though, KlorEs had been sitting out the last few rounds, and this definitely affected play, as the two active players took turns stealing KlorEs’ blinds (and the fact that KlorEs was sitting out might have helped gbpoker make the call that knocked out Puggy82, as Puggy82 was more likely to make a move with any two cards knowing the big blind was away).
KlorEs managed to reconnect just in time to get bounced in third, a disappointing end but he still picked up $1,500 plus a ticket for his efforts.
That set up a heads-up battle between gbpoker (64,000 chips) and barte (54,000), with both players fairly even in chips. It wouldn’t be long, though, before a big hand developed, with heavy action all the way to the river.
On a board of Js Qd 2s 10h 3c, gbpoker pushed all-in for his last 17,000 chips. Staring at a pot of over 100,000 and just 17,000 more to call, barte pondered for a bit before folding, surrendering a huge pot to gbpoker and leaving himself just 19,000 behind.
With a huge chip lead in hand, gbpoker sealed the deal shortly after when his Jd Jc held up against barte’s Qh 7s. Congrats to barte for the second place finish, which netted him $3,000 plus a ticket, and a big tip of the hat (yet again) to gbpoker for punching his ticket to Australia.
This will make gbpoker’s third tour of duty on Team PokerRoom.com this year, which is a very impressive feat given the competition faced each in the online finals. Here’s to hoping that the Aussie Millions will be his breakthrough event, with a money finish to go along with his impressive record in the online finals.
