Edutainment – The Outs Counter 1 of 4

Dec 5, 2007 Consider yourself holding JJ in a late position. The flop shows 9 10 J. Your first thought might be "Wow, I got trips.". But can you be totally sure you’re going to win? And do you know how many outs that will actually close the deal for you? These questions are meant to be answered. And it starts here and now.

PokerRoom.com has created a small trainer mini game to help you practice your outs counting skills – The Outs Counter. You will be shown various Texas Hold’em situations and asked for the number of winning outs. The scenarios are always on the turn, so you do not have to worry about runner-runner draws.

Once you think you have figured out the winning outs, enter your answer and click the "Answer" button. If you were right, you score points equal to how many seconds you had left on the timer, and move on to the next round; if you were wrong, you lose one life and receive no score, but the correct answer is shown. You start with five lives, and the game ends when you run out of lives.

The game also features levels. At the bottom right corner you can see how many rounds are left before you move up to the next level. The higher the level, the harder the scenarios are, both in terms of how many players are in the hand, and how complex the interdependencies between the hands are. Once you can consistently get to level 10, you have mastered the concept of outs counting!
