WPT Five Diamond Classic: Up Close and Personal With macker21

Dec 7, 2007 macker21 is one of two Canadians (along with billybillard) on the Team PokerRoom.com roster for the Five Diamond Classic, both hoping to cash in at a major tournament in Las Vegas.

In macker21’s case, though, it’d be a case of déjà vu, as he finished 305th in the 2007 Main Event, so he’s no stranger to big poker tournaments or to successful cashes. He also finished 17th in the Ongame Poker Classic in Barcelona last year and played in the Aruba Poker Classic this year.

"I work full-time at a TV news station in Edmonton as a video editor. My original goal was to be a sports broadcaster/play by play announcer but I got sidetracked by poker, which I plan to play full-time eventually. My hobbies include hockey -- playing "AAA" level competitive men’s league after playing 3 years of college. -- working out, golf, hanging out with my girlfriend, and partying with friends and family. As far as poker, I started playing about 4 years ago and currently play 1/2 and 2/5 NL (live and online), as well as MTTs and satellites to live events. I play both live and online but enjoy playing live more. I was originally trying to qualify on PokerRoom for the WPT Niagara event but finished third and received $1,300 and another $700 ticket, and I won the Five Diamond Classic finals on my next attempt. I was also playing the $10 Royal tournament at the same time and took 1st out of 1,700 entrants for $3,600, winning that event and the online finals simultaneously. Favorite poker pros would include Brad Booth, Daniel Negreanu, and Gus Hansen. I wouldn’t really be scared to see anyone at my table; poker is poker."
