All Aboard the ChampionChip Express! - By Seth Shafer

Aug 1, 2008 Circle August 3rd on your calendar as the August ChampionChip is ready to roll this Sunday. The monthly $500,000 Guaranteed tournament is back and bigger than ever, with a huge prize pool that guarantees the winner will finish the day at least $120,000 richer than when they woke up in the morning.

One of PokerRoom's newer tournament offerings, the ChampionChip has already paid out more than $3 million in total prize money so far. Here are the top ten money winners so far in the ChamponChip finals, just to give you a taste of the payouts that are up for grabs:

cambiaso24: $111,055
momi1972: $111,000
FERSAN: $111,000
perolodj: $111,000
Boro Gon: $101,187
pmryytis: $100,637
riva07: $61,000
Supernaata: $61,000
Berki20001: $61,000
hejpetr_cz: $56,501

Keep in mind, too, that qualifiers and satellites run constantly for the ChampionChip, so that players with bankrolls of all sizes have a real shot at playing their way in and taking down a huge score. perolodj (the winner of the July ChampionChip) won his way into the tournament via a $6 qualifier -- not a bad investment at all!

As far as more peanuts to riches tales, riva07 parlayed a $2 entry into more than $60,000, and both Berki20001 and hejpetr_cz ran a $22 qualifier win into paydays worth more than $55,000.

To put the opportunity the ChampionChip offers in perspective, the winner will likely play for 8-9 hours and finish ahead of 1800-2000 other players, for a payday of at least $120,000. To win that much money at the recent 2008 WSOP Main Event, players would have to survive through Day 6 (playing 12 hour days of poker each day), and outlast about 6,800 of the world's best poker players, for a payout for 46th-54th of $135,100.

All in all, it's hard to top ChampionChip, as players not only get a great structure that allows for plenty of play but also a shot at a huge payday of $120,000, and plenty of affordable satellites and qualifiers for those looking to play their way in on the cheap. Remember, someone on Sunday is guaranteed to win the ChampionChip and finish the day much, much richer; why shouldn't that someone be you?
