Obst1444 Has an Outstanding Saturday in the Team London Finals - By Seth Shafer
Aug 11, 2008
Saturday’s Team London online finals drew yet another max capacity field, this time with 80 runners all chasing the $26,500 top prize. The payout structure was different from past events, with 5th-20th place all getting a $500 + $40 ticket for a future event, and 2nd-4th getting cash plus a ticket, and the winner taking the monster trip package to a major live poker event in London.
robertof7 held the lead at the first break, with llabrador on top at the second break. When the 3rd break rolled around, they’d played down to just nine remaining players:
Seat 1: wolle2006 x ($14,094 in chips)
Seat 2: Obst1444 ($38,857 in chips)
Seat 3: Hamburg 10 ($38,816 in chips)
Seat 4: matschus666 ($26,350 in chips)
Seat 6: makemydayyy ($10,281 in chips)
Seat 7: funkydutch ($35,026 in chips)
Seat 8: -deuces- ($16,500 in chips)
Seat 9: CHEFALLAN ($39,038 in chips)
Seat 10: hjollund ($21,038 in chips)
Hamburg 10 was fresh off representing Team PokerRoom at the 2008 WSOP and was looking to book his spot on the Team for yet another major live event. He’d still be standing when action was three-handed, although trailing the leader:
Seat 2: Obst1444 ($128,827 in chips)
Seat 3: Hamburg 10 ($67,166 in chips)
Seat 7: funkydutch ($44,007 in chips)
funkydutch’s day ended in 3rd ($972 + a ticket) when he shoved pre-flop with As 5d but ran into Obst1444’s pocket queens, which held to eliminate funkydutch and give OBst14444 a big lead (170,000 to 65,000 chips) when heads-up play with Hamburg 10 began.
Hamburg 10 doubled up with Ah Qc versus Hamburg 10’s pocket fives (hitting a Q on the flop) and cut the lead to just 30,000 chips, but ran indo disaster the very next hand.
Both players shoved all of their chips in pre-flop, and Hamburg 10 was in great shape with Ah Kd versus Obst1444’s Ad Js, and primed to double again and take a huge lead himself.
A flop of 7h 8d 5d didn’t change matters, but the Jh on the turn spelled doom for Hamburg 10, and he couldn’t hit a K on the river to stave off elimination. He did collect $1,620 + a ticket for his 2nd place finish, with Obst1444 taking down 1st place and the $26,500 prize package.
