Sirin-22 Gets a Taste of PokerIsland - By Seth Shafer

Last Sunday saw yet another player book a spot on PokerIsland, one of the new, unique promotions that PokerRoom is offering.
To reach the PokerIsland finals, players had to first qualify by playing cash games; once they made the finals it was winner take all, with one lucky player getting a ticket to PokerIsland where they’d try to win the ultimate prize: a poker pro sponsorship to major live events around the world.
69 players turned out for the finals on Sunday, including former Team PokerRoom members WeeFatShug (who cashed at the 2008 WSOP) and thesheep63. Sirin-22 was the leader at the second break, and still held the lead when action was three-handed:
Seat 5: Zlotypiotr1 ($25,781 in chips)
Seat 7: Sirin-22 ($60,766 in chips)
Seat 8: cedn15 ($16,953 in chips)
Sirin-22’s stack continued to grow when he knocked out Zlotypiotr1, with Zlotypiotr1’s pocket nines no good versus Sirin-22’s As Qd on a board of Td 8s Ad Jd Ac.
Sirin-22 held a chip lead of about 72,000 versus cedn15’s 30,000 when heads-up play began. It looked like he’d steamroll to victory, with cedn15 getting as low as 7,000 chips, but cedn15 managed to double up. And double up again. And double again. And again.
Lo and behold, cedn15 had fought back from the brink to take the lead himself, with about 59,000 chips versus Sirin-22’s 44,000, when the two butted heads in a battle of flushes.
On a board of Kc Kd 4c 5c, all of the chips found their way into the middle, with cedn15 flipping over 9c 7c for the turned flush, but crushed to find himself up against Sirin-22’s Ac Qc, for the nut flush and a lock on the hand.
Once again sitting on a huge chip lead, Sirin-22 sealed the deal shortly after, with his pocket queens holding up against cedn15’s As 9s. With that Sirin-22 took down the victory and locked down a trip to PokerIsland, where he’ll relax in the mansion, enjoy the fun and sun, and hopefully make a run at the top prize of a poker pro sponsorship deal to live WSOP and WPT events.
