ARCHIVE FOR THE 'WSOP Europe 2007' Category

Sunday, September 16th, 2007

While the 1 million pound prize money is sitting on the final table, we've left our final table at a swanky Soho restaurant and returned to the hotel. A very charming night was had by all. Clearly this was the restaurant of choice to celebrate the end of the WSOPE, with Howard Lederer and Chris Ferguson leaving just as we were arriving.

nammer4life was sat tearing into some post modern roast beef, and pondering whether to buy himself into the WPT Canada. I remarked something about the prize money, to which he added that it had nothing to do with the money, he just wanted the fame. That really sums the guy up, and I truly believe if he handles himself as he has here, anything is possible.

Saying goodbye to everyone was difficult as the proximity of the small team had caused us all to bond very well.

The guys will inevitably take different things away from the tournament. Every player's expectations were different and each persons memory of the event will differ. However I have to day my top three highlights of the week are as follows:

1, The.Jones sitting next to Devilfish, while the latter explained how to tell if a woman is wearing knickers or not.

2, Gutenburg1 mistakenly referring to Johnny Chan as Jackie Chan during a TV interview after his bust out.

3, However I think my overall favorite was nammer4life's reaction when I told him one of his hands made made a huge poker news website, he simply said, "No S##T man, that's famous" and then grinned intently.

Of course I am disappointed that none of the boys took home some prize money, but I can confidently say that each man held his own among a field of giants. Most importantly they have taken away some fabulous memories and a fondness for pasties and sausage rolls, which is surely what it's all about.

If you want to be part of the ever expanding Team PokerRoom, simply step this way. You could still join PokerRoom.com via our online qualifiers for the WPT Canada at Niagara Falls. Now... I know they don't have pasties and sausage rolls at one of the most awe inspiring beautiful places on earth, but I imagine the trip would still be worth while.

London calling to the faraway towns, now that war is declared-and battle come down...The battle came down, it was the First Ever WSOP Europe.

Congratulations to Annette Obrestad becoming the youngest ever and most female winner of the WSOP! Well done Lass!

Well as they say in Moscow "I must go"

TAXI...

As we speak, trousers are being pressed and shoes are being polished as we get ready for our "End of the WSOPE", dinner with the mighty Team PokerRoom. Hopefully we'll be able to avoid the paparazzi as we make our way across town. Well done again lads.

While 8 players remain at the final table of the WSOPE, Team PokerRoom have been doing some last minute shopping and sight seeing. The guys seemed to have throughly enjoyed their time here in London. As superb choice of location for the first ever WSOPE. It will be sad to say goodbye

As the final table is assembled over at the Empire, Team PokerRoom is assembling itself for one last day of fun and frolics in the capital.

The final (very european) table

Seat 1: Johannes Korsar (Uppsala, Sweden) - 1,134,000
Seat 2: Oyvind Riisem (Bergen, Norway) - 664,000
Seat 3: John Tabatabai (London, UK) - 982,000
Seat 4: Annette "Annette_15" Obrestad (Sandnes, Norway) - 697,000
Seat 5: Dominic Kay (London, UK) - 490,000
Seat 6: Matthew McCullough (Cherry Hill, NJ, USA) - 1,278,000
Seat 7: Theo Jorgensen (Copenhagen, Denmark) - 605,000
Seat 8: Magnus Persson (Gothenburg, Sweden) - 1,231,000
Seat 9: James Keys (Bury St. Edmunds, UK) - 172,000

With only one north American featuring among them it's looking increasingly likely that a European will crowned the first king of Europe in the WSOPE.

And we're not talking about annette_15. A reduced Team PokerRoom have been shopping till they have been dropping today. However, The.Jones has reported a desire for the felt. The guys are going to make their way down to the Empire later and possibly sign up for a few cash games. The WSOPE seems to going be along at a riotous pace, with 20 players still in the running. I notice Kenny Tran propping up the field on 60k. Tran was sat at the same table as nammer, and while I found the guy to quite intimidating and/or annoying, I must admit his immediate "There's no justice, man" spoken to nammer after the beat, was quite touching.

Well let's hope for justice tonight as The.Jones tries to settle his shopping bill with the other unlucky WSOPE hopefuls.

Good luck The.Jones

He took a little beat of his own, perhaps the poker gods settling the score for nammers misfortune yesterday. It could have so easily been nammer...
