Welcome Back to Team PokerRoom, nammer4life - by Seth Shafer

May 13, 2008 Saturday’s WSOP online finals at PokerRoom drew a tough field of 30 players with their eyes focused on one prize: a $17,500 prize package that included entry fee, airfare, and hotel, (plus a hell of a good time) at the 2008 WSOP Main Event.

The pace was a blazing one early on, as there were only 12 players left a bit after the first break, with Rozza_mite sitting in the chip lead. Action would slow dramatically though after the blistering early start, with 7 players still alive and in contention at the 2 hour mark:

Seat 2: hoppic ($17,070 in chips)
Seat 3: CasinoShark ($5,070 in chips)
Seat 4: Remued ($3,115 in chips)
Seat 5: nammer4life ($13,779 in chips)
Seat 7: rockinron1 ($18,180 in chips)
Seat 8: ChekenKostet ($9,666 in chips)
Seat 10: Rozza_mite ($23,120 in chips)

Of the remaining field, nammer4life would have to have been considered a strong favorite, as he not only represented team PokerRoom at the WSOPE (and bubbled the money there when he suffered a horrific bad beat), but he’s a regular at high stakes NL cash games and has plenty of big live tournament experience, including playing at the WPT Championships in April.

When action played down the final four, nammer4life was still in the hunt but Rozza_mite was still holding tightly to the chip lead with all his might:

Seat 2: hoppic ($16,170 in chips)
Seat 5: nammer4life ($23,045 in chips)
Seat 7: rockinron1 ($16,980 in chips)
Seat 10: Rozza_mite ($33,805 in chips)

hoppic looked poised to double up through rockinron1 when rockinron1 shoved all-in preflop with pocket fives and ran into hoppic’s pocket aces, but the poker gods had a devious twist in mind, with a 5 falling on the river to give rockinron1 a miracle two-outer and a big pot. hoppic was crippled with just a handful of chips and would exit in 4th shortly after.

nammer4life’s stack took a big hit when Rozza_mite rivered two pair on him in a big pot but he got it back shortly thereafter, doubling through Rozza_mite when his pocket eights held up versus Rozza_mite’s Ac 2h.
rockinron1 and nammer4life would tangle next. After a small raise and call pre-flop, the two of them saw a flop of 2s 8h Ts. nammer4life check-raised enough to put rockinron1 all-in, who made the call.

nammer4life turned over 8s 6s for middle pair and a flush draw while rockinron1 was holding 9d 7d, for the open-ended straight draw. The Qs on the turned sealed the hand for nammer4life, giving him a slight lead as heads-up play began:

Seat 5: nammer4life ($57,249 in chips)
Seat 10: Rozza_mite ($32,751 in chips

The players would butt heads in a few pots without altering their stacks when yet another huge hand erupted on a seemingly dry board. nammer4life made a small pre-flop raise which Rozza_mite called. The flop came 9d 4c 3s, Rozza_mite checked, nammer4life bet out 3,122, and Rozza_mite check-raised to 9,000, which nammer4life called.

The turn was the 6h, putting 9d 4c 3s 6h on the board. Rozza_mite shoved all-in for his last 23,314 and nammer4life called as fast as humanly possible, rolling over 2h 5h for the turned straight. Rozza_mite held just Qs 4h and was drawing completely dead, finishing 2nd for a $586 payday and a ticket to a future online finals.

Congrats to nammer4life for booking his second stint on the Team PokerRoom.com roster and taking down the $17,500 top prize, as well as to all the players who turned out for yet another successful WSOP online finals at PokerRoom.
