Puggy82 Goes to the WSOP with Pokah! - by Seth Shafer

Jun 10, 2008 PokerRoom’s Pokah Goes to the WSOP competition wrapped up on Sunday with quite the battle between Pokah regulars Marky_Crash and Puggy 82, with the two going toe-to-toe and slugging it out in a heads-up match that would send the winner to the 2008 WSOP with Team PokerRoom.

Starting stacks of 5,000 chips and initial blinds of 10/20 gave them plenty of room to play, but they weren’t shy about moving chips around in the early going. Puggy82 took down the first big pot with Ad Qc versus Marky_Crash’s Ac 10d, with an A on the river generating the action (Puggy82 paired his Q on the flop so his two pair on the river was well ahead).

That hand gave Puggy82 a lead of about 5,300 to 4,700, and he’d extend it further in yet another clash of aces. Puggy82’s As 10s outkicked Marky_Crash’s Ad 9d on an ace high flop for another sizable out, boosting Puggy82’s lead to about 6,900 to Marky_Crash’s 3,100

It looked like it might be an early end for Marky-Crash, as Puggy82 had whittled him down to about 1,500 in chips when Marky_Crash finally got some momentum back on his side. The players were all-in pre-flop with Marky_Crash needing to win a coin flip with his As 10d up against Puggy82’s 9h 9c.

Things looked grim for Marky_Crash on a flop of 6c Qh 8s, and even grimmer when the 5h peeled on the turn. The 10s on the river, though, was just what the doctor ordered, and Marky_Crash was back in action:

Seat 4: Marky_Crash ($2,920 in chips)
Seat 5: Puggy82 ($7,080 in chips)

Marky_Crash’s stack got even healthier just a few hands later. He opened for a min-raise of 300 and Puggy82 shoved all-in over the top of him. As in the previous hand, Marky_Crash decided to look him up, making the call with Ah 7c and finding himself up against Puggy82’s Kh 10c.

The board of 5h Qh 5d 9s 6s missed both players hands, with Marky_Crash’s ace high good enough to double him up and draw even closer to Puggy82:

Seat 4: Marky_Crash ($4,440 in chips)
Seat 5: Puggy82 ($5,560 in chips)

Puggy82 responded to the challenge, though, once again building up his lead, sitting on about 6,800 chips to Marky_Crash’s 3,200 when the final hand went down.

With blinds of 75/150, Marky_Crash bet 300 pre-flop, which Puggy82 called from the big blind. The flop came 4c 6c 10c and Puggy82 led out for 500. Marky_Crash decided it was now or never and came over the top, shoving all-in.

It was 2,340 more for Puggy82 to call, which he did, tabling Ad 6d for middle pair. Marky_Crash was behind with Ac Js but had plenty of outs with his flush draw and overcard.

Unfortunately for Marky_Crash, none of those outs materialized, as the turn was the 4d and the river the Kh. Puggy82’s tough call with middle pair and no clubs proved triumphant, as he took down the victory and booked his ride with team PokerRoom for the 2008 WSOP. Congrats to both players for a tough battle and best of luck to Puggy82 at the WSOP.
