Procrastination Pays Off for ashtyper and hookahey in The Bounty - By Seth Shafer

Jun 22, 2008 For players looking to grab a spot on the Team PokerRoom.com roster for the 2008 WSOP, the Bounty on Sunday June 15th was the absolute last chance, with the final two spots on the Team going to the top two finishers.

Like each edition of The Bounty, though, there were plenty of other prizes up for grabs, including $100 bounties for knocking out selected players as well as some hefty cash prizes, with the top ten spots all paying out more than $1,000 in cash.

1246 players turned out to take their best shot at a $17,500 prize package to the 2008 WSOP, and early action was fast-paced. Kejcpetr1 was leading the field at the three hour mark, with just 94 players remaining in action.

Fast=forward a few hours more and the final table was set, with ten players still clinging to their WSOP dreams but eight of them destined to end the day disappointed (although with their wallets a good bit fatter).

The Wishler’s WSOP wishes didn’t come true, but he did collect $1,213 for 10th place. Babytraum was the next to exit in 9th ($1,544), with robot_werter following in 8th ($1,986), Andi3331 in 7th ($2,206), Stoffal0 in 6th ($3,310), and lufra in 5th ($4,413).

That left Neo1xx, Kejcpetr1, ashtyper, and hookahey as the last four players standing. Kejcpetr1 eventually bowed out in 4th ($6,620) and the true battle began, with two WSOP packages up for grabs and three players trying their best to take them down.

ashtyper held a sizable chip lead when three-handed action began, and immediately tangled in a hand with Neo1xx that’d send one of them to the rails. ashtyper raised from the button and Neo1xx quickly shoved from the BB. ashtyper called, flipping over pocket jacks, but found himself praying for some two-outer love as he was up against Neo1xx’s pocket kings.

ashytyper’s prayers were delivered with a J high flop, and the case J on the river for quads just rubbed it in more, with Neo1xx bounced out in 3rd when his pocket kings were cracked. He did collect $7,723 as a consolation prize, though, which likely eased a good bit of his pain.

hookahey and ashtyper were both guaranteed WSOP trip packages at that point, but the winner of their heads-up match got an extra $4,000 in cash, so there was still plenty of reason left to play. Despite his huge heads-up lead, ashtyper couldn’t seal the deal, and hookahey battled all the way back to take down the heads-up battle and 1st place. hookahey took down $7,724 plus a $17,500 WSOP package for 1st, with ashtyper walking away with $3,861 plus a $17,500 WSOP package for 2nd.

Congrats to all the winners and for everyone who entered another hugely successful Bounty at PokerRoom.com, and good luck to the top two finishers in Las Vegas at the WSOP!
