The network operators in the USA apply different policies and in some cases require a work-around in order to support online play mode. Operator-branded phones are already configured with Internet settings. Non-branded phones are not configured and you need to download and install the correct settings.
The Cingular network does not contain any blocks for the Internet but the Cingular branded handsets do. There are two ways around the problem: The user can buy a neutral non-branded handset and insert the Cingular SIM card from the branded handset. Another option is to replace the Cingular firmware in the handset with the standard firmware from the handset manufacturer. In both cases the new/upgraded phone must be configured with the Cingular Internet settings. These settings can be downloaded using one of the available configurators from e.g. Nokia or SonyEricsson. Internet settings can also be entered manually in the handset but is more difficult:

Settings for T-Mobile
T-Mobile only allows full Internet access if the user has an unlimited data plan. The T-Mobile network or T-Mobile branded handsets are not blocked from accessing Internet connections.
Select manufacturer and model and click submit. Select "use your phone as a modem" and click submit. Select "T-Mobile Internet" and click submit. Enter your mobile phone number, security number and click submit.
