Highlights

Saturday saw the second installment in PokerRoom.com’s newest addition to its big-time tournament lineup: the $500,000 Guaranteed. Held on the third Saturday of every month, this month’s tourney guaranteed the winner a cool $111,000, with 1862 players trying to fight and claw their way to the top spot and a huge payday.

As in any tournament that lasts nearly ten hours, there were plenty of twists and turns in the early going. Leaders at various stages included chupitox, ALL_IN_MACHO, hustca1, Riccardo78, carlosglez , and mariasova.

The final table was finally set after more than 8 hours of play, with the following lineup and chip stacks:

1. Supernaata - 882,718
2. ChipLieder85 - 789,482
3. rrr565 - 784,088
4. FERSAN - 731,374
5. plloyd102 - 577,468
6. Fleschiboy - 539,729
7. chueco_edy - 361,272
8. SeAcar8573 - 345,935
9. Ronzie99 - 314,814

Supernaata seemed poised to steamroll his way to victory, building upon his initial final table chip lead and knocking players out left and right.

With only three players were remaining, the following pivotal hand occurred:

Supernaata ($4,098,974 in chips)
FERSAN ($1,091,374 in chips)
plloyd102 ($395,652 in chips)

ANTES/BLINDS
Supernaata posts blind ($40,000), FERSAN posts blind ($80,000).

PRE-FLOP
plloyd102 bets $395,652 and is all-in, Supernaata calls $355,652, FERSAN bets $1,011,374 and is all-in, Supernaata calls $695,722. FLOP [board cards: 2D,6S,JC ]
TURN [board cards: 2D,6S,JC,5D ]
RIVER [board cards: 2D,6S,JC,5D,2H ]

SHOWDOWN
FERSAN shows [ JD,JH ]
plloyd102 shows [ JS,KH ]
Supernaata shows [ KS,6D ]
FERSAN wins $1,391,444, FERSAN wins $1,186,956.

Not only did that knock out plloyd102 in 3rd ($40,000), but it made the heads-up battle much more interesting, with Supernaata holding about 3,000,000 chips versus FERSAN’s 2,500,000.

With a difference of $50,000 between 1st place of $111,000 and 2nd place of $61,000, quite a lot was on the line for both players, as they were essentially playing a heads-up match for $50,000, not an experience most poker players have had.

After feeling each other out for a few hands, FERSAN finally grabbed the chip lead when Supernaata folded on the turn with a board of 6s 8h 4h Qs, with a pot of 2,500,000 chips sliding FERSAN’s way when his turn bet of 900,000 caused Supernaata to surrender his hand.

FERSAN sealed the deal shortly after, when both players were all-in pre-flop in a classic race situation; FERSAN held Ad Ks versus Supernaata’s 7s 7d.

The $500,000 Guaranteed While the flop helped neither player, FERSAN spiked the Ah on the turn (and the Kd on the river for extra measure), good enough to secure first place and a whopping payday of $111,000. It’s never fun to finish second, but Supernaata at least had $61,000 reasons to not be too disappointed in how his day ended.
